JASON BOWLES AND HIS AMERICAN MAJORITY NO. 81 TOYOTA TEAM LOOKING FORWARD TO RICHMOND THIS FRIDAY NIGHT
“Bowles now 15th in points following 18th place run in Texas”
(MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA) April 24, 2012 – Jason Bowles and his American Majority No. 81 team roll into Richmond International Raceway (RIR) this weekend in hopes of another strong run in their Toyota Camry. Coming off 15th and 18th place runs respectively at Fontana and Texas, the MacDonald Motorsports team is looking for another top-15 run this Friday night in Richmond.
Previous Success @ Richmond…..Last April, Bowles entered into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event at Richmond International Raceway. Driving for Gaunt Brothers Racing with Jeff Fultz turning the wrenches, Jason drove to a solid 6th place result in the Blue Ox 100. Bowles will undoubtedly be hoping to use some of what he learned that night this Friday driving the American Majority Racing No. 81 Toyota.
Jason on Richmond…..“This will be our first short track start with the Toyota so I’m really excited to see what we can do. I ran 6th there last year in the NASCAR K&N East Series race so I hope I can use some of that experience this Friday night. I think we’re going to get all the guys and our sponsor guests out to the go-kart track at some point over the weekend as well so that should be fun. I have to redeem myself after getting beat by our PR rep last time (laughing).”
Jason’s thoughts on Texas…..“We worked on the car all race long and just couldn’t get the loose condition out of it. Being loose going into the turns at Texas is not a very fun experience with all the speed you’re carrying down the straights. We kept plugging away at it though and managed a decent 18th place finish. It wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for but we’ll take it. It feels good to be in the top-15 in the points.”
Toyota Speed…..In six races this season, MacDonald Motorsports has run a Dodge in three races and a Toyota in three races. The average finishing position for the Dodge was 28.3 while it was 20th among the three Toyota races. With Jason’s short track background combined with the speed of the new Toyota, this weekend will prove to be the team’s best chance thus far this season to earn a top-10 finish.
15th in Points…..Jason has now advanced 13 positions since his blown motor in Daytona to be in the top-15 in points. Bowles is only 13 points from being 11th in the standings and without the issues he encountered in Daytona, he would probably be there. The MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 moved up four positions in the owner’s standings to 23rd which gives them a nice buffer zone for being locked in to the races. In the 2012 Rookie of the Year chase, Jason sits third among the seven contenders, 44 points behind Austin Dillon.
Watch the race…..Fans can see the NASCAR Nationwide Series 250 from Richmond Friday night live on ESPN2 at 7:00PM EST.
